Paediatric Dietetics
Supporting Children to Thrive Through Nutrition, Feeding and Healthy Development
At Healthy Young Minds, we understand that eating, nutrition and mealtimes can be challenging for many children and families. We are excited to introduce Paediatric Dietetics, a new service designed to support children and young people to develop healthy relationships with food, meet their nutritional needs, and achieve their health and developmental goals.
Our Paediatric Dietitian works collaboratively with families, educators, medical professionals, and therapists to provide practical, evidence-based support tailored to each child's unique needs.
How Can a Paediatric Dietitian Help?
A Paediatric Dietitian can support children and adolescents with:
-
Fussy or selective eating
-
Limited food variety
-
Sensory-based feeding difficulties
-
Mealtime stress and food refusal
-
Nutritional deficiencies
-
Growth and weight concerns
-
Gastrointestinal issues, including constipation and reflux
-
Food allergies and intolerances
-
Healthy eating and lifestyle support
-
Nutritional support for medical conditions
-
Feeding difficulties related to developmental or neurological differences
Our approach is child-centred, family-focused, and designed to be realistic and achievable within everyday routines.

Supporting Neurodivergent Children
Many neurodivergent children experience unique challenges around food, eating, and mealtimes. These difficulties are often linked to sensory processing differences, anxiety, routine preferences, interoception, motor skills, or medical factors.
Our Paediatric Dietitian can provide support for children with:
-
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
-
ADHD
-
Intellectual Disability
-
Developmental Delays
-
Sensory Processing Differences
-
Learning and Developmental Disorders
Support may include:
-
Expanding food variety
-
Addressing sensory food aversions
-
Improving nutritional adequacy
-
Supporting mealtime routines
-
Managing selective eating
-
Reducing family stress around meals
-
Collaborating with Speech Pathologists, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Teachers and Medical Professionals
We recognise that every child is different and that successful feeding support starts with understanding the child's individual strengths, preferences and needs.

NDIS Participants
Paediatric Dietetics may be available for eligible NDIS participants where nutrition, feeding, growth, health or mealtime supports align with a participant's goals and funded supports.
Our Dietitian can work alongside your existing therapy team to provide coordinated and holistic care that supports your child's participation, independence, health and wellbeing.
Why Nutrition Matters
Good nutrition supports:
-
Growth and physical health
-
Learning and concentration
-
Energy levels
-
Emotional wellbeing
-
Behaviour regulation
-
Sleep quality
-
Cognitive development
-
Participation in everyday activities
When children feel comfortable and confident around food, the positive effects often extend well beyond the dinner table.
